So I picked up a Seagate 3TB external drive a few months ago to backup my NAS during an RMA and figured I'd use it now to increase my storage space on my XB1.

I've been unable to get the XB1 to see the new drive though as the title suggest. It's a USB3.0 drive with an external power source. It is of course plugged in and I've tried both USB slots on back and the one on the side along with rebooting the system (holding down the button as well as removing power) and while the blue LED will blink when the system is booting up, the XB1 never see's or adds the storage space. I put it back on my primary system today and formatted the drive for NTFS to clear off the NAS backup image thinking it may have been the issue, but still no joy. Was hoping someone here might have some advice?

The only thing I need to try still from the XB1 support site was to: Go to the Home screen. Press the Menu button on the controller. Picture Select Settings. Go to Power & startup. Unselect the checkbox next to “When Xbox is off, turn off storage.” So update to this, after turning off the option as mentioned above, and rebooting the XB1 a few times, nothing. I did finally get it to see the drive when moving it to the side USB port, and rebooting. When it found it though, it only see's it as a media drive and not one I can use for game storage.

I don't see any way to format it or make it be used for data storage. I've moved it back to the rear slots and it's found it without issue again, but still only as a media option.

Original title: Windows 7 not reading external hard drive Today I installed he test copy of windows 7 (build 7100). When I was running the setup and was asked which partition would have windows installed on it, it listed my external hard drive as an option. I installed it on my main hard drive and the install completed smoothly. Windows 7 seems to be operating rather well, but I can't access my external hard drive. When plugged in, I get the message: 'USB Device not recognized: One of the devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it.' Device manager shows it as a flagged 'unknown device.'

Everything else so far runs well, but all my data is backed up on this drive and I need to access it.
