I have a Compaq 500B Microtower that originally came with Windows 7 Pro(32 bit) and 4GB of RAM. (2x2GB) I understand that 4GB (DDR3 1066/1333Mhz) is the memory limit for 32bit version of Windows 7.
I reformatted the hard drive and installed the 64bit version of Windows 7 Professional, so I can add more RAM. When I tried to increase the RAM to 8GB (2x4GB, DDR3 1600), I get a memory error alarm (beep). The memory checks out good, in another computer. I know Windows 7 (64 bit) allows a higher amount of RAM. Is there a BIOS upgrade that might allow more RAM (8GB) to be used? Or did I just use the wrong speed of RAM?
